Dropped 9 minutes in my Half Marathon- Woo! Hoo!
I did it in 2:04:48, a 9 second drop from my last one in March so I must be doing something right. I came in 3rd in my age group.
I had a great run. It was a nice cool 62 degrees for the start and even when the sun came up over the beach it still did not get above 70 so it was awesome. I got a good start and did not fall over those runners who do a run/walk and stop right in front of you, so that may have contributed to the best time. I watched the clock at each mile marker and saw that I was keeping good pace. I stopped at the water stations and rinsed my mouth or took a sip and even doused my head with the water! I did not walk at them this time so I am learning.
I took a half piece of blok at mile marker 4 and 8.
I told my 3 kids to be there after the 8 mile mark as that is all I have run in training and they pulled through for me. They spaced themselves out and did the phone thing to make sure the next person didn’t miss me and I saw them both ways with the turn around. Everyone looks the same in running gear.
Hubby and my Mum were at the finish line and I was a bit choked up at that. I had brought my Mum from Scotland for a 3 month break in the sunshine. She will be 87 in January. So this was special for me.
I checked my time and thought the girl should have said 2:14 so went away from the desk then hubby said the clock said 2:0 something. Of course I am not one to run with my own watch and I really did not see the time clock at the finish I just saw the cameraman. I told hubby to go get the car and pick us up while I check on the time again. I went back and asked another girl to check on the computer. Not only was my time 2:04:48 I came in 3rd in my age group!!!! I guess I don’t give myself enough credit. I received my medal at the table as there was no awards ceremony except for the top finishers. That was kinda strange but I guess they needed the beach parking lot to be opened to the public.
Now I am home nursing a blood blister on the side of my foot and of course still high as a kite!
