Abs, easy walk and hot swim!
Went to the abs class then a nice easy walk to get the thighs back into working order. Went to the pool and swam in the training pool which was a hot 90 degrees! Did a nice stretching freestyle and loosened off the legs. Still feeling high after my great run yesterday and have my tight thighs to prove it. I feel like an old woman when I get up from a chair! . Thanks to everyone at Sweat365 that gave me the encouragement and accolades.

Dropped 9 minutes in my Half Marathon- Woo! Hoo!
I did it in 2:04:48, a 9 second drop from my last one in March so I must be doing something right. I came in 3rd in my age group.
I had a great run. It was a nice cool 62 degrees for the start and even when the sun came up over the beach it still did not get above 70 so it was awesome. I got a good start and did not fall over those runners who do a run/walk and stop right in front of you, so that may have contributed to the best time. I watched the clock at each mile marker and saw that I was keeping good pace. I stopped at the water stations and rinsed my mouth or took a sip and even doused my head with the water! I did not walk at them this time so I am learning.
I took a half piece of blok at mile marker 4 and 8.
I told my 3 kids to be there after the 8 mile mark as that is all I have run in training and they pulled through for me. They spaced themselves out and did the phone thing to make sure the next person didn’t miss me and I saw them both ways with the turn around. Everyone looks the same in running gear.
Hubby and my Mum were at the finish line and I was a bit choked up at that. I had brought my Mum from Scotland for a 3 month break in the sunshine. She will be 87 in January. So this was special for me.
I checked my time and thought the girl should have said 2:14 so went away from the desk then hubby said the clock said 2:0 something. Of course I am not one to run with my own watch and I really did not see the time clock at the finish I just saw the cameraman. I told hubby to go get the car and pick us up while I check on the time again. I went back and asked another girl to check on the computer. Not only was my time 2:04:48 I came in 3rd in my age group!!!! I guess I don’t give myself enough credit. I received my medal at the table as there was no awards ceremony except for the top finishers. That was kinda strange but I guess they needed the beach parking lot to be opened to the public.
Now I am home nursing a blood blister on the side of my foot and of course still high as a kite!

I am ready for my half marathon tomorrow!
I have done my training and now I am ready to put it to the test. My goal is to run under 2:15 which is good for me considering this is only my third half marathon. I need to write this to get my mind set.
I did a 4 mile run on Thursday with my running gear (shorts, top, hat, headband, hat, pouch with bloks and my Ipod ) that I will be using for my half marathon. Thank goodness I did this run because there were 2 things I forgot. The major one was to go to the bathroom before the run. You all know what that is like! I think I got home faster because of it! The other was to take a small towel to dry off, blow my nose or whatever.
Took 2 days rest and have had good 7 hour sleeps so there is no excuse about being over tired.
I’ve been eating a banana a day and watching my food intake and making sure not to eat junk and of course drinking plenty of water. Tonight I will have some pasta. There have been a few notes on what or what not to eat but pasta works for me.
The weather is cooperating and it will be a nice cool 62 and of course clear skies for the start. In South Florida that is a great day, considering at the start of the week it was 74 with winds gusting at 35mph at 6:00AM.
My hubby, my Mum, my 3 kids and my 7 month old grandson will be along the course to cheer me on. Must remember to tell them what I am wearing so that they watch for me. My last 5K race my hubby took pictures…………..of another runner!!!!
Yes, I am ready and I promise myself I will go at my own pace especially at the start. Only hours to go now.
Will keep you posted.

2.5 mile run
Nice easy run as a taper for Sundays half marathon. It was a balmy 72 and we have high winds for the next 3 days at least.
After my run I went to the pool but the pool temperature was 77 which was slightly warmer than the outside temperature. Sorry, too cold for me and the other girl that swims with me. I just don’t want to get sick and with the winds on my back when I swam freestyle would make it colder. As I reread this I thought to myself and what else can you come up with to get out of swimming. Oh yes, there may be a shark lurking under the covers!
I hope the winds go away before Sunday because the run takes us along the beach for about 3 miles each way so it is very exposed. Last year’s run was my first ever half marathon and I was lucky the weather was a cool 65 for the start and a beautiful day for the run. My time was 2:19:23. This time the temperature is going to be about 72-75 and who knows about the wind. I have a count down (days) on my office door, mentioned it on Facebook, the route map is on the fridge at home and I sent the map to my 3 kids and told them to be there, spread out, after the 8 mile mark to get me through that hurdle. It is a good place because I see them one way and then again after the turn around, then I only have about 3 miles to the finish where hubby will be. In my training I have only ran up to 8 miles so during the next 5.1 miles I need all the encoragement I can get.

Early morning Abs class
Made it to class again without the alarm clock! I know this class is making my abs better because the Wednesday Abs trainer came around his class to fell our abs when we were doing crunches and he made a comment. He said, and I may say quite loudly, "What do you have there? rocks!"
Being me and not a vain person I thought there was something wrong with my abs and worried about it all night. When I saw the trainer the next night I told him he is not getting to touch my abs again and I told him why. He laughed and said he never expected my abs to be hard and that it was a good thing. I was flabergasted! Here I was worrying I was doing the exercises all wrong and having hard abs instead of "tight/firm or whatever they call it" abs. I guess I need to accept a compliment when I get one. He is just not going to get to touch my abs again though and embarrass me in class. I can’t take it.

Honest, I have been exercising! Here’s my monthly update.
Here goes with my monthly workout.
When I was in Scotland I did my run in the mornings and usually a walk at night. My sister lives on the beach. Don’t get the wrong ideas, it is on the North Sea and very windy most of the time. The morning temperature was a cool 42-45 with daytime highs in the 50’s which is a nice change from the hot humid weather of Florida.
My first run was a 10 miler. I wanted to see the deer again on this run so I kept going along the beach and through a wooded area that the army uses for training. I saw two so that made my day. The rest of the week it varied from 3-5 miles and I changed directions a lot and saw some old haunts. At night I went out for a 2-3 mile walk which was easy to fit in because the TV shows are not exactly worth staying in for. I brought my Mum back here to sunny Florida for a 3 month break.
When I got back I went right into my usual workout routine, getting ready for my half marathon on November 15th here is Fort Lauderdale.
Week of October 19th
Monday AM: 30 minutes at the gym doing Abs class then a 2.5 mile run then 2000 yard swim.
Monday PM: 1 hour upper cardio class with hand weights and bar weight.
Tuesday AM; 30 minutes at the gym doing Abs class then a 2.5 mile run then 2000 yard swim.
Tuesday PM: 1 hour Pilates class
Wednesday AM: 30 minutes Abs class then an hour upper cardio calss with the arm weights.
Wednesday PM: 45 minutes Abs class
Thursday AM: 30 minutes at the gym doing Abs class then a 2.5 mile run then 2000 yard swim.
Thursday PM: hour Pilates class then an hour Cardio boxing class.
Friday AM: 30 minutes Abs class then a 4 mile run
Friday PM: nothing
Saturday AM: hour Cardio Boxing class
Saturday PM: nothing
Sunday AM: 1.5 hour walk at the local Swap Shop.
Week of October 26
Same as the first week but a 6 mile run on the Friday.
Week of October 26
Monday through Sunday, same workout as the last week except the Friday run was a 6 miler.
Week of November 2
Monday through Sunday, same workout as the last week except the Friday run was a 7 miler.
Added to my "regular" weekly workout
I borrowed a wheelchair from my work and some nights, after making dinner and before my gym classes, I would push my Mum up to Target (2 mile round trip) just to get out so that should be some sort of exercise because I was sweating when we got back to the house.
I’ve been waking up myself at 5:15AM without an alarm clock so I am hoping to get past that during my week of rest after the half marathon next week. We shall see. If not I will go out for a walk.
OK, now I am updated and promise myself to continue to monitor my workouts. I think it really helps keep you motivated.
