New Year Plans- keep writing posts on Sweat365
My last post was April 2010 more because I was doing the same thing weekly and felt there was no point in putting it to paper. It was boring writing so must have been boring reading it. Gym at 5:30AM then a run at 6:00AM then a swim at 7:40AM then off to work. Gym class at night for Pilates, Cardio Boxing, Upper body Workout and Boot Camp.
I am still doing all that except the swimming. Due to Budget cuts the pool does not open until I am at work so my run is a little longer now. Due to personal finances I have not run in 5Ks since April.
I turned 60 last week but still feel like 45 so that is the good news. The bad news is that I ran a half marathon in November and not only was I disappointed that I added on 4 minutes (2:09) but the photo that my husband took at the finish showed me tired and not exhilarated at finishing.
Which takes me back to the posting on Sweat365. The encouragement I received in my training and the accolades I received in my accomplishments up to last April helped me focus.
My New year resolution is to post, probably not daily ( boring) but probably weekly. I signed up for the same race next year and vow that I will put more effort into training for it. I want to do a 2:00 and know I can do it.
THanks for reading. Hope you have a Happy Healthy New Year. I know I will.

Wow! I really messed up with my non-posts
My exercise regime did not change until 3 weeks ago when I got sick. It was the same old, same old and not worth noting online. Really busy at work (at a school) then another school called me for help and I could not say no, so I am going there after my regular work day. I still managed my morning work out and evening classes at the gym until 3 weeks ago when my exercise stopped because I got sick. The throat infection then went to my chest and even speaking in a sentence was hard without coughing up a storm. I could not do anything except work of course for 2 weeks. Last week I restarted my exercise and took it nice and easy on my runs and at the gym I did not do the hard cardio classes. Now it is so easy to talk myself out of exercise. I either go into work 2 hours early to do catch up and miss out on my long runs or a swim, and I am too tired in the evening after doing the 2 jobs and did not get dinner ready so am pre occupied. When I am home, I look at the clock and know I should be at the gym so it’s not like I have stopped thinking but I really hope I can get back nto my exercise schedule because I really did love it.
Yes, this is a catharsis and I am glad I shared my dilemma with anyone who reads this. I know will survive this down turn because I enjoy exercising in any form.
PS. I felt really good because during my sickness my gym called me on my cell to find out if everything was OK because they missed me.

Another half marathon under my belt
Well this half was different. My oldest daughter had agreed to run this half marathon with me but that was back in August. With a new baby she had no time to train but she still followed her commitment to run. I decided to stay with her all the way and had told her we would do it in 2:50. I found out she has my character trait of perseverence and determination.
She ran the first 6 miles, only stopping to walk through the water stations. I thought after the 5K mark she would slow down but she wanted to slow at the 6 mile mark. She walked just a few more times as we counted the miles (and she did look for the next mile marker) until mile 12. I told her how proud I was of her to get this far and that she only had one mile left. We ran the last mile and the smile on her face was worth a million dollars. We did it in 2 hours 56 minutes and 49 seconds. Now she has something to beat.
I wouldn’t talk to her right now about doing another half. Let’s just say her getting out of bed is a spectacle!
Maybe we can do a family thing in November at the Fort Lauderdale 13.1 marathon.

Am I ready for another half marathon? Yes and maybe!
I ran the my last half marathon in November and was very happy with a drop of 9 minutes. Now here is my next one. It came up fast ( ING in Miami on Sunday.) I know that I have been training for this but somehow this race doesn’t have the same appeal. I am a planner and always have been. I saw the route and I don’t know the Miami area at all which does not make me feel comfortable. It looks very scenic going across one bridge (more than 3 miles) to Miami Beach (never been there) then back across another bridge (3 miles) to the finish so that’s a good thing. The weather will be a nice cool 60 degrees or maybe a little lower for the start which is another good thing for South Florida. I may see celebrities coming out of the SOBE clubs as we run past so that may get me over the first bridge.
My daughter is doing it too but she is going to run and walk because she feels she has not trained enough. I told her I would stay with her which freaked her out because then she knows I should really be running and that me being with her will actually make her "perform" rather than her doing her own slow, slow pace.
Well, thanks for reading and now that I have committed this to "paper" I feel like I have shared my dilemma and it makes me feel better! Who knew.
I know I have not posted on here for a while but my weekly routine has been the same and has not changed so why write it. I will keep you posted about the race.

RUN IN THE COLD- 34 DEGREES-ENJOYABLE
Yes, I know it sounds crazy but my run today was the best I have had for a while. I thought I could run forever. It was such a change from the humidity in South Florida that just tires you out in a run. Last week we had cold weather too and I really tried to get the hang of running on the treadmill at the gym but it was so boring and it actually hurt my shins. Last night I promised myself that I would run outside so I laid out my clothes, including thermals, hat and gloves so there would be no excuse and it was absolutely fantastic. So energized now and ready to go to work. I go into work with such a positive attitude and others notice but still don’t go out to exercise.

What’s changed? Holiday time
Not entered much since my half marathon on November 15th but I do admit that I have been keeping up with my exercise routine. I lost weight at Thanksgiving!!!!!! I have kept it off too so let’s hope I survive Christmas and don’t put it all on again. The holiday season is tough on your body and there just never seems the time to sit around.
I promised myself that I would write something every day on my site but my exercise routine hasn’t changed and I have not been in any races lately. When I consider the cost of the entry I decided that the money had better go to holiday gifts instead.
My next quest is the ING half marathon on January 31st in Miami. I live so close to Miami but really only travel there to get to the airport so it will be nice to see Miami. We run across the bridges to Miami Beach and back so the scenery should be nice. Actually now that I have put that down in writing I feel better about participating.
I miss writing on here but as I said my exercise routine hasn’t changed.
I think I will be exercising for the rest of my life and that is not a bad thing. I would miss running where you run for yourself; the swim which is always outside and you see the dawn break over the pool; the gym classes for the camaraderie and the fun.
Have a Happy Healthy New Year!

Abs, easy walk and hot swim!
Went to the abs class then a nice easy walk to get the thighs back into working order. Went to the pool and swam in the training pool which was a hot 90 degrees! Did a nice stretching freestyle and loosened off the legs. Still feeling high after my great run yesterday and have my tight thighs to prove it. I feel like an old woman when I get up from a chair! . Thanks to everyone at Sweat365 that gave me the encouragement and accolades.

Dropped 9 minutes in my Half Marathon- Woo! Hoo!
I did it in 2:04:48, a 9 second drop from my last one in March so I must be doing something right. I came in 3rd in my age group.
I had a great run. It was a nice cool 62 degrees for the start and even when the sun came up over the beach it still did not get above 70 so it was awesome. I got a good start and did not fall over those runners who do a run/walk and stop right in front of you, so that may have contributed to the best time. I watched the clock at each mile marker and saw that I was keeping good pace. I stopped at the water stations and rinsed my mouth or took a sip and even doused my head with the water! I did not walk at them this time so I am learning.
I took a half piece of blok at mile marker 4 and 8.
I told my 3 kids to be there after the 8 mile mark as that is all I have run in training and they pulled through for me. They spaced themselves out and did the phone thing to make sure the next person didn’t miss me and I saw them both ways with the turn around. Everyone looks the same in running gear.
Hubby and my Mum were at the finish line and I was a bit choked up at that. I had brought my Mum from Scotland for a 3 month break in the sunshine. She will be 87 in January. So this was special for me.
I checked my time and thought the girl should have said 2:14 so went away from the desk then hubby said the clock said 2:0 something. Of course I am not one to run with my own watch and I really did not see the time clock at the finish I just saw the cameraman. I told hubby to go get the car and pick us up while I check on the time again. I went back and asked another girl to check on the computer. Not only was my time 2:04:48 I came in 3rd in my age group!!!! I guess I don’t give myself enough credit. I received my medal at the table as there was no awards ceremony except for the top finishers. That was kinda strange but I guess they needed the beach parking lot to be opened to the public.
Now I am home nursing a blood blister on the side of my foot and of course still high as a kite!

I am ready for my half marathon tomorrow!
I have done my training and now I am ready to put it to the test. My goal is to run under 2:15 which is good for me considering this is only my third half marathon. I need to write this to get my mind set.
I did a 4 mile run on Thursday with my running gear (shorts, top, hat, headband, hat, pouch with bloks and my Ipod ) that I will be using for my half marathon. Thank goodness I did this run because there were 2 things I forgot. The major one was to go to the bathroom before the run. You all know what that is like! I think I got home faster because of it! The other was to take a small towel to dry off, blow my nose or whatever.
Took 2 days rest and have had good 7 hour sleeps so there is no excuse about being over tired.
I’ve been eating a banana a day and watching my food intake and making sure not to eat junk and of course drinking plenty of water. Tonight I will have some pasta. There have been a few notes on what or what not to eat but pasta works for me.
The weather is cooperating and it will be a nice cool 62 and of course clear skies for the start. In South Florida that is a great day, considering at the start of the week it was 74 with winds gusting at 35mph at 6:00AM.
My hubby, my Mum, my 3 kids and my 7 month old grandson will be along the course to cheer me on. Must remember to tell them what I am wearing so that they watch for me. My last 5K race my hubby took pictures…………..of another runner!!!!
Yes, I am ready and I promise myself I will go at my own pace especially at the start. Only hours to go now.
Will keep you posted.
